I grew up playing tons of pond hockey and roller hockey on local lakes and in empty parking lots. I never got the opportunity to play in a league, partly because there wasn’t much for girls back then and partly because I lived in a rural area without a nearby rink. But it was and has continued to be one of my favorite sports.


So, when my oldest son was around six or seven and I stumbled across a local roller hockey league, I immediately jumped at the chance to sign my son up and start coaching myself. In 2019, I became the president of Newton Roller Hockey, and I continue to run the league today. I also coach both of my older boys’ teams and play for our coed adult league. 


I’m definitely better on inline skates than I am on the ice, so I might well be the worst one out there. But, as a foster-adoptive parent and long-time volunteer for many youth organizations, improving the lives of children and families in our community is my passion, so I jumped at the chance to support this amazing cause!
